Jane is a vampire in coven known as the Volturi who reside in Volterra, Italy. They are regarded as “royalty” by other vampires because they have lived for well over three thousand years and act as police, enforcing the rule that the existence of vampires be kept a secret from humans. They often send others to travel from Volterra to prevent overzealous covens and renegade vampires from exposing their species. They are guarded by several powerful vampires who have been collected for their powers and skills. Jane is among the Volturi guards due to her ability to create illusions of pain.
Jane was there in New Moon when Edward tries to dig him, Alice, and Bella out of the situation he has created. Jane is the one who tortures Edward until he falls and cries out in pain. Jane leads the rest of the Volturi guards in Eclipse to see what the disturbance is in Washington. However, she arrives only after the Cullen family along with the werewolves finish off the hoard of young vampires created by Victoria. Distrusting the Cullen family, Jane is snide and chooses to harass them anyways. Jane is last seen in Breaking Dawn when she comes with the whole of the Volturi to finish off the Cullen coven. However, since her abilities are only mental, Jane is unable to attack the Cullens, werewolves, and everybody else there to protect the Cullen family as Bella shields them all from her attacks. Angry that her abilities she has always been proud of failed her against Bella’s shield, Jane is reluctant to walk away from the fight and remains bitter.
The Volturi early on had spot the young human twins Jane and Alec and saw them as potential people to change. However, frightened humans threatened to burn the twins at the stake so Aro was forced to change them sooner then he wished to as he wanted them to be older.
Fun Fact: Dakota could read at the age of two.
Hometown(s): Conyers, Georgia; Los Angeles, California
Career: Before her debut into the cinematic world, Dakota did her own acting around her house. She was very active for her age, and often put a blanket under her shirt and pretended to be having a baby, using her younger sister, who is also an actress now, Elle, as the baby. Dakota went to a playhouse near her home, where the children that attended put on a play every week to show to their parents. But the people running the playhouse noticed that Dakota stood out, and advised her parents, Joy and Steve Fanning, to take her to an agency. They believed that she was extremely talented. Dakota Fanning’s family was advised to spend six weeks in Los Angeles, a long way from their home in Georgia to let Dakota pursue acting. But there Dakota managed to get her first work; to star in a national Tide commercial. She was chosen out of many, many other children. The family then decided to move to Los Angeles permanently, for it looked like Dakota’s career was looking very good. After they moved, Dakota signed with a professional agency, and soon won a role in the movie Tomcats. She then went onto a small project called Father Xmas as Clairee. But Dakota’s big break-through was yet to come. She auditioned for one of the main characters in I Am Sam, and the director and the rest of the crew were amazed by her extraordinary talent. Dakota was cast, and starred in the movie as Lucy Diamond Dawson, alongside major Hollywood stars Sean Penn and Michelle Pfeiffer. After I Am Sam she went straight onto Trapped, Sweet Home Alabama, Taken, Hansel & Gretel, The Cat in the Hat, Uptown Girls, Man on Fire, Nine Lives, and Hide and Seek. By then, she was the busiest child actress in Hollywood, with a resume to die for. Her younger sister, Mary Elle Fanning (Elle Fanning), had also been discovered a few years earlier. After Hide and Seek in 2005 she acted in War of the Worlds which was one of her major movies out of everything she’d worked in. Not only did it make her more popular, but she got to play the daughter of A-list Hollywood actor Tom Cruise. Her more recent major motion picture hits include Dreamer, Charlotte’s Webb, Hounddog, The Secret Life of Bees, Winged Creatures, Coraline, and Push. Dakota Fanning has also voiced for such movies as Kim Possible: A Sitch in Time and Lilo & Stitch 2: Stitch Has a Glitch.
About Them: Hannah Dakota Fanning was born to parents Joy Arrington, a professional tennis player, and Steve Fanning, a minor league baseball player. Her favourite films include Gone with the Wind, Titanic, and Steel Magnolias. Dakota collects dolls. She looks up to Meryl Streep and Hilary Swank, “not just because they’re great actresses, but because they are amazing people.” Her last name “Fanning” is of Irish origin. Also, she is of half-German descent. She is on the varsity cheerleading squad at her high school. Dakota carries a book of baby names with her wherever she goes. Can play the violin and is learning to speak French. She also learned to speak some Spanish for her role in Man on Fire. After filming Dreamer: Inspired by a True Story, Kurt Russell, bought her a palomino horse, whom she named Goldie. Goldie lives on a ranch near Dakota’s home where she can visit him often. Dakota also plays the piano, knits, collects dolls, ride horses and dances ballet. She has naturally curly hair. Dakota loves to eat boiled peanuts. Dakota has credited Judy Bloom as one of her favorite authors, and she is also a huge Harry Potter fan. Taco Bell and Panda Express are some of Dakota’s favorite fast food restaurants. At Taco Bell, she loves to order a Nacho Bell Grande with meat and cheese only (she needs to be a little more adventurous…).
Quick Quote: “It’s fun to know what I want to do – you know, when I grow up. I have friends who say, ‘Oh, maybe I’ll be an astronaut or whatever.’ But it’s cool to want to do this forever. I knew from my first commercial that I wanted to be an actress.”
