Early History
Quil is a member of the Quileute tribe and part of the Ateara family line, which is one of the families in the tribe known to carry the werewolf gene. Quil Ateara V is the fifth in his family to carry the name.
Before his transformation, Quil is one of Jacob Black’s best friends, along with Embry Call. The three are inseparable and spend a lot of time together, especially during the early parts of the series.
Initially, Quil is unaware of the werewolf gene in his family and the potential for him to transform. His transformation comes later than Jacob’s and Embry’s, causing him some confusion and distress as he sees changes in his friends before experiencing them himself.
