I’m finding it difficult to type, because I’ve just watched the first full trailer for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, and my entire body is currently riddled with goosebumples. I daresay this trailer lives up to Warner Bros.’s descriptions of the films being a “worldwide phenomenon” and this two-part finale being “the motion picture event of a generation.”

Wow – I think the teaser looks amazing! I don’t mind being “spoiled” for the films so I’m surprised, but not upset that bits from the forest sequence and final confrontation are shown. I think the way Dan closes his eyes as Voldemort casts the Avada Kedavra is perfect. It does make waiting a year for Part II, much harder, though!
There seems to be a bit from every important action sequence included – the flight from Privet Drive, the Ministry heist, the Godric’s Hollow attack, a Snatcher chase scene, (there’s even a glimpse of Belltrix throwing the knife that will kill Dobby) Gringotts, the FiendFyre scene, the final battle etc. I love all of it! I especially like the shot of Voldemort by Dumbledore’s tomb, presumably using the Elder Wand for the first time. The shot of Voldemort casting a powerful spell with Bellatrix next to him and Hogwarts in the background is interesting. I guess he’s trying to penetrate through the castle’s defenses or something. The part with Voldemort holding Harry’s face and asking him why he lives looks great, but I’m not sure how it will fit in the film. I really like the way Voldemort’s cloak seems to wrap around Harry. What appears to be the final confrontation in the courtyard is different from the book obviously, but I still like it. However, I do hope the defenders of Hogwarts are around at the end.
I also think it’s a bit odd that the scene with Nagini seems to take place in a children’s room with toys around. Fans have been speculating that this is the Potter’s house, in Harry’s old room.
I’m a bit upset that the blood from Hermione’s hands (the shot with Ron splinched in the backround) has been edited out of this trailer when it was in the MTV and HBP DVD sneak peak. Surely that wouldn’t be considered too graphic in a PG-13 film? I would really like it to be included and hope this change is just for the trailer.
The part with Voldemort holding Harry and asking why he lives could be the scene after Voldemort’s first failed attempt to kill Harry? It looks as if they have proceeded from the forest to the castle grounds, that would make sense. Does Voldemort look as if he fattened up a bit? Maybe it’s to indicate that he’s getting stronger? Maybe Bellatrix has been cooking him a few square meals?
That does make sense as to when Voldemort could be grabbing Harry. I wonder how Harry gets out of that, though. Maybe it’s like GoF where Voldemort lets Harry go and gives him back his wand so that they can duel?
You’re right about Voldemort! He does look chubbier.
Anonymous from Arizona, they may have edited out the blood so that the trailer can be shown before films rated lower than PG13. I’m not at all sure how that works – just a thought.
They might have decided to tighten things at Godric’s Hollow by having the fight with Nagini take place at the Potters’ old house. It would speed things up a bit to have the ambush take place there, and it creates rather a nice circle with Voldemort coming back to try and finish it where he started it.
As for Voldemort looking fatter – maybe he’s been on the unicorn blood again.
Elizabeth, your suggestion about the fight with Nagini taking place in the Potter’s house – would that building still be intact with furniture and all? Unless they rebuilt it with some Muggles living in it now – which would add interest. On the other hand, as far as I know they cast Batilda Bagshot – and why would she enter the Potter’s house?
Anyway, what is Snape doing there on the floor holding on to a window? Is that the scene where McGonnagal, Flitwick and so on chase him? Or his death scene…? But that very unfortunate event should take place in the Shrieking Shack, shoulnd’t it?
It is funny but I was just seriously contemplating to watch Twilight just to see the trailer on the big screen – and then I read the comments to go with the trailer stating than Anna Kendrick is thinking about doing exactly the same thing… seems to me Twilight is getting a bigger audience because of the HP trailer…
I know, Siena, but when did logic ever stop them? I mean, last film saw the Burrow gratuitously burnt down, although I could sort of see why they did it – to show just how much danger the whole Order was in.
They have to tighten and conflate scenes where they can in a movie. Even in a book, if you can see a way to make one scene do three or more jobs, you do it. Harry is looking for Bathilda, it’s not a stretch to think that he would follow her into his parents’ house. I think he’d want to go in anyway, just as he wanted to visit their graves. I know in the book it says that the house has been left in ruins as a memorial, but maybe in the movie it’s been restored as a memorial, sort of like a house museum. Lots of those in the UK after all.
I took my boys to see Shrek 4 yesterday – we were ALL hoping we’d see the HP trailer. No such luck!
“Shrek4” was probably a good choice, even though you missed out on the trailer. As for me, I did indeed go to see Twilight – would you believe – and there wasn’t a glimpse of the HP trailer either! And, to make matters worse, I fell asleep halfway through the film! What a waste of money – serves me just right.
Yes, you are right about them having to tighten scenes. It’s only that I had hoped now that they have more time they could show us all.. and don’t mention that Burrow Scene it still annoys me.
Still, I cannot help being VERY excited… and the trailer does look good. I wish I could buy my ticket already, it would make it more feasable. I hope WB don’t change the date again…
