Way back in April we reported here on Wizard News on a story about Ian Brown, formerly a musician in the Manchester rock group Stone Roses. The Observer in the UK reported that he had landed a role in the next Harry Potter film, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. This rumor was denied by Warner Bros. just a few days later.
With the release of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, we now know that this rumor was, at least, in part true. It turns out Ian Brown was not cast for Goblet of Fire, instead he did have a cameo role in Azkaban.
This information appeared today in an article about the premiere of Azkaban on BBC1:
Ian Brown from the Stone Roses has a cameo in the film as a customer at the Leaky Cauldron.
He landed the role because he’s mates with director Alfonso Cuarón. He was hoping to extend Ian’s role but the singer refused to dress up for it:
“I’m a friend of Alfonso so he asked me if I fancied doing it. I’ve got three kids so I couldn’t turn him down!”
“I’m a movie star for a day! It was great, I got my own trailer, a dresser and all that.”
“They would have given me a speaking part this time but I had to wear a crazy thing and I didn’t want to do that. It was like a rubber mask and all warts and a hunchback and all that.”
