Last weekend, Hurricane Charley swept across the center of Florida, leaving millions without electricity and thousands homeless. We’ve been told by people in the area that some schools were in, or near, the eye of the storm, and suffered extensive damage.
FictionAlley is organizing a school supply and book drive to make sure that the kids who lost so much in the storm have great gear to start school with. If you’re interested in helping, when you go shopping this year for your own schoolthings, pick up an extra notebook or two, or a set of pens or pencils, and send them down to:
FA Supply Drive ATTN: Heidi Tandy 1111 Lincoln Road, Suite 400 Miami Beach, FL 33139
We’re sure that some kids have even lost their copies of the Harry Potter books, and other favorite books too, so in addition to new school supplies, we’re collecting new or excellent condition books as well. They can also be sent to the above address.
We’re only going to be able to collect through September First, as school will be starting even before that, so please, send your donations as soon as possible.
If you’re interested in sending money, don’t send it to the above address. A list of agencies that are collecting for those devastated by the storm can be found here.
