This morning, the American cover of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was shown anywhere for the first time by Arthur A. Levine of Scholastic on the Today Show on NBC TV. Simultaneously, both the American and British covers were released on the official publishers websites.
As Merideth Viera and Matt Lauer talked to Arthur A. Levine about the meaning of the image on the American cover, Mr. Levine confirmed that someone will die, but did not say who. He says he cried when he read the book. At this, Merideth Viera said, “Someone we like died?” And then Mr. Levine appeared to say, “Yes,” but then quickly said, “Well… it is a very emotional book.”
The British book cover released this morning also includes these book jacket notes:

In addition, according to an article on the CBBC website of the BBC this morning, the British edition of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows will be 608 pages long. Scholastic announced last week that the American edition of Deathly Hallows would be 784 pages.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows will be released worldwide in English on July 21, 2007.
