Just like its predecessor show, House of the Dragon is not afraid to kill off its characters. Major or minor, nobody is safe in this Targaryen civil war. Because of this, it could be hard to keep track of who all has died, as well as how or when it even happened.
Luckily, we got you covered! We’ve laid out each episode in the show so far, showing who died in each one, both major and minor characters, and what happened to them.

First Appearance: S1E02 (The Rogue Prince)
Affiliation: The Triarchy
Titles/Nicknames: Prince-admiral, The Crabfeeder
Place of death: Bloodstone, the Stepstones
The leader of the Triarchy, an alliance of three free cities, Craghas’s forces were a great annoyance to the Valaryon fleet, attacking any ship that would pass by, killing the crewmen by either drowning them, or putting them to the stake to be eaten by crabs (hence the nickname ‘The Crabfeeder’).
After being at war with the combined efforts of Corlys Velaryen and Aemon Targaryen for 2 years, Aemon attacked him and his troops alone on the beach where they were camped out. This baited Craghas and his army to come out of hiding and allowed Laenor Velaryon to ambush them with his army and Seasmoke. In the insuring chaos, Aemon went for Craghas himself, bisecting him and finally ending the war.

Being the lover of Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen and fathering three children with her, Ser Harwin Strong lashed out on Ser Criston Cole for insinuating the illegitimacy of his children. Afterwords, he is dismissed by the City Watch, and his father Lord Lyonel Strong arranged to take Harwin to Harrenhal to prepare him to rule their family’s seat.
This was a trap, however. Once they reached Harrenhal and went to rest for the night, Larys Strong’s hired people burned the building down. Once the fire started, Harwin awoke to the sound of his father screaming, and tried to reach him. However, he was locked in his own room, and was burned alive.

Place of Death: Red Keep, King’s Landing
The death that set off the chain of events leading to Dance of the Dragons war. Throughout his reign, Viserys battled an unknown infection that slowly spread across his whole body, deteriorating both his body and mind. Parts of his body, such as his fingers, were amputated in order to combat it, but only succeeded in slowing it down.
The infection eventually wins, and Viserys passes away. After an entire reign of relative peace, his death leads the way to the Dance of the Dragons, a brutal war between his children Rhaenyra Targaryen and Aegon II Targaryen over who should succeed the throne.

Prince Lucerys Velaryon (and Arrax)
First appearance: S1E06 (The Princess and the Queen)
Affiliation: Targaryen Prince
Title/Nickname: Luke
Place of Death: Shipbreaker Bay, the Stormlands
The death that arguably started the Dance of the Dragons proper. Lucerys is sent on a mission to Storm’s End to secure the support of the Baratheons, but Aemond Targaryen got there first, and convinced Lord Borros Baratheon to turn on their house’s previous oath to the Targaryens. Though Aemond wanted revenge on Lucerys for his eye right then and there, Lord Borros wouldn’t have it and sent them away.
Luke quickly got on his dragon Arrax to flee back to Dragonstone, but Aemond and Vhagar promptly began giving chase. While trying to flee, he temporarily loses control of Arrax, who tried attacking Vhagar with his fire breath to no avail. They eventually fly above the storm and seemingly lose Vhagar, but shortly after the massive dragon bites into Arrax (despite Aemond’s pleas not to), easily crushing Arrax in half, and devouring Lucerys himself.

Title/Nickname: None
Place of death: Dragonstone, the Crownlands
After the death of King Viserys I Targaryen, these two brothers were split on who should be heir to the throne. Ser Arryk Cargyll sided with the Greens and continued to serve Aegon II Targaryen, while Ser Erryk Cargyll went to Dragonstone with Rhaenyra Targaryen, siding with the Blacks and joining her Queensguard. In retaliation for the death of Prince Jaehaerys Targaryen, Ser Criston Cole orders Arryk to sneak into Dragonstone, disguised as his brother, in order to assassinate Ryaenyra.
Ser Arryk successfully infiltrates Dragonstone, and makes it all the way to Rhaenyra’s room. Just as he is about to kill her, Ser Erryk comes in to stop him, and the two brothers fight. After a brutal and tragic battle, Erryk wins after stabbing his brother in the stomach. However, unable to live with the guilt of becoming a kinslayer, he begs his queen for forgiveness before killing himself with his own sword.

Shortly after arriving, Aegon appears with his dragon Sunfyre (much to the surprise of both sides), and the two dragons battle.
While Meleys has the upper hand, Aemond and Vhagar join the fray, severely injuring Sunfyre immediately. While Rhaenys and Meleys are able to get a hit on Vhagar, the ancient dragon eventually regains the ground and crushes Meleys’s neck, killing her.
