House of the Dragon Will Have 4 Seasons & Won’t Resume Production Until 2025

If you’re eager to finally see this war that House of the Dragon has been building up to over the course of the first two seasons, you may be in for a bit of a wait. Showrunner Ryan Condal confirmed today that season 3 will not begin production until early in 2025. The season is currently being written and does not have a set number of episodes yet, although it will likely continue to be 8 per season.

HBO may be looking to take their time with the next season in part to give their other upcoming Game of Thrones spinoff, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, a little room to breathe. Condal also said they wanted time to get the Battle of the Gullet right, as it’s the next important event in the story and one of the most anticipated among fans. Many were disappointed that the battle was not included in the season 2 finale.

Condal also announced that the series will have two more seasons. This confirms that the show will cover only the Dance of the Dragons portion of the Fire & Blood book, and will wrap up with season 4.

I love deeply human stories in fantastical wrappings. Dragons, vampires, spaceships... it's all good - as long as the characters feel real and the story makes me think.
